This week is busy for the LuxTurrim5G ecosystem partners. We are participating several major events regarding 5G and smart cities simultaneously. A key event is the Smart City Expo World Congress 2019 (Barcelona, Nov. 19-21), where Nokia together with City of Espoo will highlight ‘city as a platform’ concept and showcase our sustainable solutions for smart cities. Join us at the NOKIA Booth (#B249) to learn more about the LuxTurrim5G ecosystem and how our Smart Pole based solutions provide the digital backbone for a smart city enabling novel data driven services.
At the Smart City Expo we will show demos on data collection & privacy protection as an example of digital services enabled by the ecosystem. The view of the video camera mounted on the expo smart pole is blurred to show anonymized visitors at the booth. Other presented services include the Connected Zone public safety concept (by Teleste), city drone services (by Nokia & Rumble Tools), self-driving robot bus (by Sensible 4) and environmental monitoring (by Vaisala). ”This is a great opportunity for the LuxTurrim5G consortium to be able to present our smart city concept, services and technologies to a wide topical audience” says LuxTurrim5G+ project manager Pekka Wainio at Nokia Bell Labs.
Data connection made over internet to Nokia Campus in Espoo Finland brings in turn real-time information and video feed from the LuxTurrim5G pilot environment. The smart poles equipped with sensors and cameras connected via 5G network connectivity provide local weather and air quality data, video-surveillance for safety & traffic monitoring, 24GHz Radar for detecting moving objects as well as support for the self-driving robot bus and autonomous city drone services, with drone landing station at top of the pole for quick recharging and data download.
Actually, through this we are also connecting virtually two major events together, the Smart City Expo in Barcelona and SLUSH in Helsinki, which is the world’s leading start-up event bringing together about 200 investors, 4000 start-up and 25 000 participants. Key guests participating SLUSH and the Nokia Global Analyst Days, also taking place at the same time, are visiting LuxTurrim5G pilot environment at Nokia Campus with the self-driving GACHA robot bus by Sensible 4.
Today’s cities need new digital infra and services to enable sustainable development and meet the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs). 5G will fuel digital innovation in many cities domains and as such will be a key foundation to their development. Active collaboration of cities and companies is important to facilitate 5G deployment to meet the real needs of cities, today and in the future, and maximize the socioeconomic outcomes. This is exactly what Nokia and City of Espoo with the LuxTurrim5G ecosystem and its 26 partners are doing hands-on.
”The collaboration creates wide range of tools and solutions to build sustainable cities. Kera area is a platform to test and scale-up innovations that enable sustainable every day life. The cooperation is an important part of Espoo’s pioneer work to reach UN’s sustainable development goals by 2025.”, highlights Niina Nousjärvi, the project manager of Smart and Clean Kera from city of Espoo.
